How Important is Technique ?

This is a very important subject to me, as it should be for anyone who is interested in avoiding injury and adding those all important kg’s to their lifts - and who wouldn’t be interested in that?!
Lifting a heavy weight from one position to another doesn’t sound that hard, but there are so many wrong ways of doing it. I for one have seen some shocking technique and form in my time. Here are a few I found on YouTube.
Bad form 1 dead lifts
Bad form 2 squats
Bad form 3 bench press
Although I have seen these videos before, and I laugh every time, the lifters in all these videos have been so lucky not to have seriously hurt themselves. The sad thing is that they could probably have lifted the weight if they had applied the correct principles and researched and educated themselves on the correct technique for the lift.
I used to hate the squat. It felt uncomfortable and awkward, and I used to get shoulder pain when I went heavy on the bench press, and when I dead lifted I got the occasional twinge in my lower lumbar region. I started to think I must be doing something wrong, so I did some research and realised I was doing a lot wrong!
I stumbled upon these videos and I thought I should share them with you:
Avoid injury - nobody wants to get close to a goal, only to be forced to take time off from the gym for an injury that could have been easily prevented.
On another note, all being well I will be attempting  a 130kg squat 5x5 tomorrow - I will post a video on my Twitter.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a powerful start to 2012.
